Why Small Business Saturday Matters

+ Special Photography Offer

As we approach the busiest shopping season of the year, it’s important to remember the businesses that keep our communities vibrant and unique. While Black Friday and Cyber Monday often dominate the retail landscape, Small Business Saturday offers a perfect opportunity to shift the spotlight back to the small businesses that are the heart of our neighborhoods. In this post, we’ll explore why supporting local businesses matters, and we’re also excited to offer a special deal for those looking to capture memories with a professional photography session during this holiday season!

Why Small Business Saturday Matters

Small Business Saturday was created by American Express in 2010 to encourage consumers to shop small and support locally owned businesses during the holiday season. Since then, it’s grown into a nationwide movement, with shoppers dedicating the Saturday after Thanksgiving to supporting small businesses.

But why is this so important?

  1. Boosts the Local Economy
  2. When you spend money at a local business, a larger percentage of that money stays within the community. Small businesses are often independently owned, so the money spent here is more likely to be reinvested locally. Studies show that for every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in the community. This helps fund local schools, infrastructure, and community projects, making our neighborhoods stronger and more connected.
  3. Fosters Innovation and Diversity
  4. Small businesses often bring unique products and services to the table. Instead of shopping at the same big-box stores or online giants, shopping local gives you access to one-of-a-kind goods and creative offerings you won’t find anywhere else. It’s not just about buying products—it’s about supporting the unique vision of entrepreneurs who take risks to offer something new.
  5. Personalized Service and Relationships
  6. One of the things that make small businesses stand out is the level of care and customer service they provide. Many small business owners are passionate about what they do, and that passion shines through in the way they treat their customers. By shopping small, you’re not just a number—you're a valued part of the business’s success.
  7. Creates Jobs and Stability
  8. Small businesses are the backbone of job creation in the U.S. According to the Small Business Administration, small businesses are responsible for 44% of U.S. economic activity and employ nearly half of the private workforce. Supporting them helps create more job opportunities in your community.
